Best wedding budgeting advice I can give? The couple needs to decide for themselves what's most important and devote their time and money accordingly. For some, the dress is THE most important thing. I don't really care about the dress so I bought mine for $250 from JCrew (and it was really nice). Some folks insist on having a photo album done by their photographer. We got the digitals and did it ourselves on peekabo (Snapfish, Shutterfly all have options) and are very happy with the final product. What did we spend money on? Good food and an open bar. But the point is, decide for yourselves what you want to do. The second best advice I got? No matter what you decide on each detail, someone won't like it. You can't please everybody. it's your wedding so make sure you are happy with what you do. Any other wedding tips out there?

I'm on the verge of getting wedded, and yes, planning together already is proving cost-effective. Thanks for the story !

My wife and I were able to save quite a bit of money by hiring self-employed professionals. Our florist was just starting her own business and was operating out of her basement (we didn't care where she kept the fridges or where she worked - her prices were great and she did fantastic work!). We also purchased a lot of the things that the church and banquet hall wanted to rent us, but resold them afterward (4' columns for plants, votive holders, etc).

My tip is to not pay for your wedding with credit. Imagine how painful it would be to still be making payments a year or two later on a day that came and went so fast! I know people who have done this.
