The following Questions and Answers address LifeTuner and LifeTuner.org privacy issues in more detail. We want to make sure that you understand the types of information that are collected at LifeTuner.org, the ways in which that information is used and protected, and the choices that you have about this collection and use. Specifically, this privacy policy answers the frequently asked questions listed below.
In this policy, the terms "LifeTuner," "we," "our," and "us" refer to AARP and its affiliated entities, such as, for example, AARP Services, Inc. The terms "you" and "your" refer to LifeTuner.org users like you.
1. Do I have to submit any personal information in order to use LifeTuner.org?
You do not need to give us any information about yourself in order to access most of LifeTuner.org; however, if you want to participate in certain activities on the site, including creating a My Tuner profile, receiving email newsletters, asking or responding to questions, or take part in community activities, such as joining discussion groups, you will need to register on LifeTuner.org.
Again, you do not have to disclose any personal information if you do not want to. You can always decide not to use the optional services that require the submission of such information. The choice is yours. Our primary interest in acquiring information about you is to offer you convenient online services that match your interests and needs.
2. Does LifeTuner.org collect non-personal information, using "cookies" or otherwise?
We collect other types of information that do not identify your name, e-mail address, or other personal characteristics. This "non-personal information" includes the number assigned to your computer whenever you access the Internet ("IP address"), and the type of browser you use.
We use this information to help us evaluate how LifeTuner.org is being used. Our primary purpose in collecting this information is to provide you with the services you request, and to evaluate and improve other services that we offer. By gathering this information, we can learn, among other things, how many people visit LifeTuner.org, which LifeTuner.org pages are the most and least popular, and which other websites are the most frequent referral sources forLifeTuner.org. We may also use this information for other purposes. For example, we may review demographic information, survey results, and statistical analyses of LifeTuner.org usage in order to help us evaluate, modify, and develop services that are likely to be of interest to our users.
We may also assign a "cookie" to your computer in some situations. Like an IP address, a "cookie" is a kind of online identification tag that allows us to recognize your computer each time you visit LifeTuner.org. For example, the LifeTuner online community, that is, those registered users of LifeTuner.org who submit personal profiles, or participate in message boards, chat rooms, and user groups, uses cookies to recognize returning registered users of the site.
Unless you have already provided us with personal information on LifeTuner.org or an affiliated site, cookies do not allow us to identify you by name, e-mail address, or other personal characteristics. We use cookies primarily to identify return visitors and make your LifeTuner.org experience more convenient.
We may use vendors for various purposes. For example, we may use a vendor to place LifeTuner-approved banner advertisements on LifeTuner.org. The cookies allow us to manage the delivery of these ads – for example, by counting the number of times a visitor has viewed different banners. If a visitor has viewed the same banner a number of times, LifeTuner can use the vendor's system to automatically display different banners in the next visit. LifeTuner has complete control over the banners that are placed on LifeTuner.org through this system.
We also may use a vendor to collect aggregate information aboutLifeTuner.org usage – such as the most visited pages and features. This vendor will also use cookies and transparent image tags to collect this information. Like cookies, image tags do not allow us or the vendor to identify you by name or other personal characteristics. These vendors do not collect any personal information from users on LifeTuner.org, and they do not share the non-personal information collected on LifeTuner.org with anyone else for any other purpose.
Web beacons are images embedded in a web page or email for the purpose of measuring and analyzing site usage and activity. LifeTuner, or third-party service providers acting on our behalf, may use web beacons to help us analyze site usage and improve the LifeTuner.org.
If you are uncomfortable allowing cookies to be placed on your computer, read this article on LifeTuner.org that explains how to set your browser so that it will not accept these cookies, or so that it will notify you whenever a website is trying to use cookies. If you choose not to accept cookies, the full functionality of the site may be impaired for you, and you may not be able to use certain features of LifeTuner.org or linked sites. You will still be able to visit the general LifeTuner.org pages without cookies.
LifeTuner may ask you to participate in surveys designed to help improve LifeTuner.org. Any personally identifying information provided to LifeTuner in connection with any survey will be used only in relation to that survey. LifeTuner may aggregate survey data (such data will not include any personally identifying information) and disclose such aggregate data manner to:
- Advertisers and other third parties for their marketing and promotional purposes;
- LifeTuner users for purposes of comparison of their personal financial situation relative to the broader community.

LifeTuner takes very seriously its responsibility to keep information about you confidential and private. We do not sell or rent any personal information about our users to telemarketers, mailing list brokers, or any other companies, except for those companies which help us operate LifeTuner.org and provide related services to our users. We contractually require all such companies to and maintain the security and confidentiality of your personal information and these companies are prohibited from using your personal information for any purpose other than providing the services specified in their contracts with LifeTuner.

- e-mail us at privacy@LifeTuner.org
- call us at 202-434-3511
- write to us at LifeTuner, 601 E St. NW, Washington, DC 20049
We also may release personally identifying information or use non-personal information to identify a user when required to do so by law or when such action is necessary or appropriate to comply with legal process served on LifeTuner, to protect and defend the rights or property of LifeTuner or its affiliated companies and entities, or to protect the personal safety of users of LifeTuner.org. We reserve the right to contact the appropriate authorities in our discretion when users' activities appear to be illegal or inconsistent with our policies. In the unlikely event that LifeTuner or LifeTuner.org is sold or otherwise transferred to another company, information about LifeTuner.org users might be among the assets transferred to the new owner.
Finally, we may sometimes share aggregate statistics and non-personal information with the media, government agencies, advertisers, and other third-parties.
