exploring the essentials of money

You care about your money. We care, too. At LifeTuner you can get ideas and inspiration for how to make financial decisions that better your life.

If you met us in the early days, you'd have seen a lot of people crowded around little tables working together
trying to solve a problem: How could the web help young people earn more money, be smart about using it and
save it up to have a better life?

Guess what? We learned nothing sitting around little tables.

So we shut off our computers and left our offices and found more than 400 young people who were willing to talk
with us. And we started asking questions — lots of them. We asked what you thought about the world, your life
and your money. We listened as you told us your stories. We asked more questions and kept on listening until
you were done talking. Until we were blown away.

And here's what we learned:

  • In the recession, your generation was hit the hardest.
  • You have the highest unemployment rate.
  • You have been asked to work fewer hours, part time and for less pay.
  • But, yours is the most optimistic generation.
  • You care about the world.
  • You have unique ideas, skills and style.
  • Together, you earn nearly $1 trillion and are helping the world recover.
  • The world's future is in your hands
  • But you are young and still fine-tuning your life.
  • You want help with big decisions that involve money, so you can live the life you want and create a
    better world.

And then it became clear what we needed to do. We needed to create LifeTuner — a free, online community
where you can go to find ideas, inspiration and answers to help you make decisions about money and life.

LifeTuner inspires young people to explore the essentials of money — how to earn
it, use it and save it to live a better life.

but didn't have a clue about how to manage them

Experts @ LifeTuner

One of the best and most unique things about LifeTuner is our community of volunteer financial experts, who help
make personal finance education simple and manageable. They are available to answer general questions and
share insights learned during their training and their individual practices.

Credibility is very important at LifeTuner, so we work with two professional association that oversee, license or
provide certification to personal finance professionals:

American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)

AICPA is the national, professional organization for Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) — financial advisors that
help people and organizations plan and reach their financial goals. CPAs do more than 150 hours of intense
training and take a tough exam to get licensed. They have to follow a strict code of ethics and state licensing
guidelines. More

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board)

CFP Board is a nonprofit certifying and standards-setting organization that grants a CFP® certification — a
standard of excellence for personal financial planning. CFP® certification requires: earning a bachelor's degree,
completing a financial planning course, passing a tough 10-hour exam, having at least three years of professional
experience in financial services and following CFP Board's Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility, Rules
of Conduct and Financial Planning Practice Standards. More

LifeTuner and AARP

LifeTuner is part of AARP.You may have heard about AARP from your parents and grandparents. It's a nonprofit
membership organization helping people older than 50 live a better life.

You may be asking, "Then why would AARP create a online community for young people?" That's a good
question.

After spending a lot of time watching its members struggle with serious money issues and not saving enough for
retirement, AARP realized that something needed to change. People had to start making good financial
decisions earlier in life, so that they could be more secure as older adults.

AARP knew it could help young people while they still had time to improve their lives and the world they live in.
So it created LifeTuner, which has grown to a community helping thousands of young people make better,
smarter money choices.

And we're not stopping there. AARPand LifeTuner are now working on ways to bring younger and older adults
together to share stories, insights, tips and life skills — using the web to create a new kind of 21st century
community focused on intergenerational connection and sharing.
